Open source search tools: ht://dig and swish-e
DelphiFAQ currently uses swish-e for searching documents. The presentation of the results is home-made.
I had used swish-e several years ago, and switched then to ht://dig.
ht://dig is a great tool, but I could not get it to work on my new web host's environment. (I had to move from OLM to bluehost because of OLM's intolerable outages in 2005 and early 2006.)
For a while I ran the search function on the (frequently inavailable) old box -hosted by OLM- until I put in the time to migrate it completely to BlueHost, now implementing swish-e again.
Crawler
The crawler runs currently not on a fixed schedule. Instead I manually start the crawl process. I am still looking into optimizing the recrawl process. I start the crawler about every 2 or 3 days. This means that if you run a search on a string that appears in a very recent comment, then this string may not be found yet.

If you find anything on this site that matches the information given to you directly from a suspected scammer, he or she is therefore a scammer. Anything that matches, as photos, names, e-mails. web addresses, addresses, telephone numbers, and even what they said to you, means they are scammers because they are using the same methods and information. Generally, when a person contacts you 'out of the blue', by email, and immediately calls you honey, sweetheart, my man, etc, and talk as if they are in a serious relationship with you when they just met you, are scammers and problem people. Hello everybody, the picture search has been repaired. I found a bug in the software that I had introduced a few months ago. I looked at the code that I wrote that day and I am 100% sure that this is the reason why the picture search broke.
And I am 90% sure that this new code does not break anything else :-) I'm sorry it was broken so long, I myself did not use this function. Enjoy! Peter | ||

Peter, thanks muchly for the fix. I confirm that it works from my end, both with images from my computer and tested a few pictures from your site.
What I would like to ask you is this - 'How can we create a new scammer info page with pictures, when the set of pics and info is not on your site?' I may have missed it, but it seems there is no link anywhere that I can find that allows a person to create a new page. As a result your web site ends up with very long pages and hundreds of photos (last count was 512 pics on a page), all of different scammers. Any suggestions? Mark | ||

I love the Photo Test feature you have on this site. Wonderful creation. I am curious as to how it works. It would be great to see it on other scammer sites so we could quickly check to see if a person's pics we have are posted on that site, instead of having to slowly search thru hundreds of pics manually.

The picture finder is an excellent feature. I have been approached by 4 so called Russian ladies, they are all here on your site. One scammed me and got money, she was a pro, and I'm getting old. I am receiving emails from the fourth one now. I will find ways to get more sexy pictures before she gets tired of asking me for money. At the last I may send her a picture of me holding guns and wearing a full face mask, just for the fun of it.

Thanks for providing this service. I almost got caught out by a Russian lady going by the name Darya Mohova. But the old saying is true if something is too good to be true than it must not be true. The pictures are too glamous for a real russian woman. Cheers | ||

Could be usefull and informative to know a little about how it works, eg. is it facial recognition, some software that compares rgb graphs, Exif info comparison, file name comparison, etc. The reason I say is because I very often adjust images I have downloaded and resample, sharpen, clean skin crop etc etc. in order to be able to clarify detail when I enlarge them. All these could affect things plus I often alter filenames etc.

Your picture search is awesome. I have been approached by 4 scammers in the last week. I don't want to mention the Site, lest they try to sue me for defamation! MATCH.Com I am currently continuing to correspond and develop my own portfolios on them. I will continue to forward this as it is obtained. Hopefully, I can help the next sucker that comes along!
