Recognizing similar images

You guys have probably been wondering, why would I want to collect keywords for images?

As you may have noticed, you can search here if a photo that you have received has already been posted to this site. This photo search will work when you received exactly the same photo as someone else prior to you.

But the scammers are getting smarter. They take a photo of some model and slightly modify it. Each scammer may modify it in a different way. Usually they crop the image. Look at the two following ones:

Obviously the same image, but different size. The 'photo search' function will not recognize that these 2 photos are the same.

Now I added the ability to keep track of similar photos. The system will automatically recognize them based on the keywords. That is why it is not a good idea to add keywords like 'This is Natalia'. Instead the keywords should describe what you see on this picture- color of cloth, hair, etc.

I hope this will be helpful, in the long run. Only a small fraction of the images so far have received keywords. It's a lot of hard work.

Here are 2 other - 'similar' - pictures:

As you can see, they've been cropped to a different size and one has also been made 'brighter', for whatever reason. The keywords exposed them as being 'identical'.

Here is another example how scammers modify images. It appears that they have found out about this web site's photo search function, and now they try to create 'new' photos that look slightly different, in the hope that they are not recognized.

You can see how the right photo has a little more red and is bit more blurry than the left one.

Hallo Admin Peter, Wie Gehts?

Thanks to this site for so many things I'm learning. 1) Spotting scammers 2) Avoid hurting inncocent people whose identity may be stollen 3) Computer skills

I like to post from what I learn from you all, and observing my friends in action. I must admit, I wasn't born with googling instinct - It's a learned behaviour from visits to sites yours.

For those interested, all data can only stored as zeroes and ones, regardless of the operationg system, or complexity of the hardware. When a computer loads a picture file, it's presented in hexadecimal format with coordinates for width, height, and the depth representing color. Even if only one of these bytes is changed, the picture search algorithm will miss it. Your text additions to the pictures is excellent.

A scammer is only as smart as a vicitim believes.

There are 'threats' of scammers sending viri.

My friends use 2 hard-drives in removable drawers. When the serious work with one is finished, the 'Entertainment Drive' replaces it. This drive has only the Operating System, an antivirus with up to date definitions, and Deep Freeze or Centurion Compugard according to personal preference.

1) Before typing userid, password the IP address is released 2) A password like 42135 is typed 1 first, 2 next, after mouse-click in its position and so on. 3) A keylogger cannot record mouse clicks and after password competing, IP address is renewed, logon clicked

A scammer 'listening' for private information is easily frustrated.

When a scammer picture is downloaded, the virus scan will spot it. In the unlikely event it doesn't, when the computer is shutdown the virus disappears faster than a victim can fart on the face of a scammer!

By mixing International and American English, and some Deutsche, it won't be easy for a scammer to find me.

All these counter measures are a one-time effort and cost considerably less than a single scammer wants in the money-letter.

I may be accused of being a geek, and my answer - 'guilty as charged' - you guys have inspired me to become one!

Auf Wiedersehen

Scamming: in goed Nederlands: oplichting
Intentions: just one: to get as much money out of you as she (he) can.
Your (our) email: several possibilities. Read more of this site and you will find your answers. Do you have any pictures? Try the Picturesearch (at the bottom). She might be here already.
