This weekend (October 10th, 2009), I introduced accounts on DelphiFAQ.com

The main reason was to give people the ability to edit a comment that they have posted several hours or days ago. Without a login, it was not possible to reliably identify the 'owner' of the comment.

Second, it did happen that someone impersonated someone else by using that person's name. It is still possible to post anonymously, but if you post while logged in, a green check mark will appear next to your name above the comment.

Finally, it has happened several times that one poster tried to reach another poster but neither one of the 2 posters had left their email address. The 2 posters would independently email me and I would try to make the connection. Successfully, in a few cases, I may add. Now, if you are logged in, you can send a message to another registered user on this site.

You can see your own messages in your profile.

In the upper right corner you have links to log in or to register a new account:

Once you are logged in, you can access your profile by clicking on your name in the upper right corner:

Scam Bay,
In the drop down box Rate as (below the anonymous)
Just rate, Check both square boxes on the tight, replace anonymous with your email addy, choose a single radio button, leave the comment blank, you are done subscribing anonymously. You need to do once only per thread, I think the algorithm will check addy against thread number fxxxx.shtml

I hit AutoFill for my Email address then click on the box where You are supposed
to enter Your Password 3 times and Your Password will appear for You.

Thanks again, it worked. Note that password only appears if it has been previously typed in, and not if it has only been pasted.

@OJAS 2010-01-27, 06:19:06

Thanks, That seems to work too. It does leave an empty comment, but delphi looks more like my kitchen than my mother's anyways. Comes with the territory in a open forum I guess.

@OJAS
I could be mistaken, but it seems that to subscribe with relative certainty, text has to be entered in the comment. Those where I have only chosen a rating do not always work.

@Scambay,
In the past, all that was needed to subscribe was to rate. Probably some subscribers entered a few blank spaces with the space bar. But your suggestion of adding one word, ''subscribing'' seems even better.

Please tell me if you have more problems with delphi login.
I have a big problem right now with my comp? or delphi? Thanks...

What happened there was it showed me as logged in at the top right, but when I posted, the comment showed as anonymous. I then noticed that I did not show as logged in at the top left of the yellow posting area. I logged out and logged back in, Showed as logged in at both places. I was able to edit the comment, but it still did not show the check-mark, so I just replaced 'anonymous' and made the subsequent confirmation comment, which posted normally.

I now check to see that I show as logged in at both places before posting. Unless I'm subscribing, as noted earlier in this thread.

Given the contradiction in status on the page, and the fact that a simple logout and login solved it the problem, I'm guessing it was something in delphi. If this doesn't work, you can always try the usual housekeeping (clear cache, etc.), always best to completely close IE and do this from Control Panel when in response to a problem.

I had also the very same problem now some days ago,i signed in on the delphi account as usual suddenly i couldnt read my messages on the account ,and suddenly i became signed out,and my postings became unregistrated,and i begun to make researches on my computer,cleared the webhistoric with the cookies,temporary internet files and earlier visited websites,and then it suddenly worked out fine,but yesterday it became the very same again i could not read my private messages,so i made an scanning on my computer if it could be something else with my computer ,but i found nothing so i think this is only a problem with Delphi now as we are several users having this very same problem now it must be an delphi problem, im always keeping my computer in shape, i do offen make regurlary maintenance as webhistoric cleaning,scanning and a disc cleanups as i visit many websites it is important to do that offen.

I believe IE is fraught with such problems. Long ago, I switched to Firefox, and use IE ONLY for Microsoft updates. With Firefox, the moment you clear history, you are fine. You will be logged out of everything, including emails. Then you close everything, reopen a new browser (Firefox of course) and everything seems as it should be.

Did you try logging out and then back in? If so, did it work?

Yes i have my thoughts also about the IE since i upgraded to IE8 i have more problems than earlier,i have my thoughts to change to an another webbrowser as Firefox infact.
Yes i was automatically loged out as i made an webhistoric clean up on the computer.So something with the inlog and outlog it is obviously.

Could be a combination of delphic and IE quirks. As a general rule, I avoid the current version of any Microsoft product - they consider mass marketing and product testing to be synonymous. I'm still managing with IE 6 but will have to upgrade soon thanks to deliberate obsolescence. I will go to IE 7. By the time that becomes non-fucntional, with any luck IE 8 should work properly. Somewhere along the way, I will probably give Firefox a try - just haven't got around to it.
