Ok, here's another scammer for everybody to watch out for:

His supposed name is Robin Habing, his yahoo email is robhabin@yahoo.com . He says he is 36 but when I went back and looked at his prfile on Yahoo Personals, his birthdate would make him currently 35. His screen name on Yahoo Personals is 'Sunshine Man.' I have contacted the site, but they have not removed his profile yet.

He contacted me through yahoo personals and claims to be from Berkeley, CA funny how he cannot name a single restaurant or destination around that area! lol. When I asked him about restaurants in the area he said he doesn't eat out very often and that he has a personal chef. YEAH, SURE!

Anyway, he says that his wife died in a car accident four years ago. And he has not dated anyone since her death. He moved to California from New Jersey to try and get over her. Apparently his parents are dead also, and he has no brothers or sisters.

He claims to be have his own 'Building Construction Consultancy' business, though when I googled this type of business in the bay area, none of them came up with one owned by anybody with his name.

He says he went to Lagos, Nigeria to oversea the completion of a project and would be back in 10-15 days. About 10 days in, he started talking about how there was a problem with an order he placed for supplies before he even left the US.

I have heard of these types of scams before and so when I got an email from him telling me that he had to place another order, it would cost $17,000 and he only had access to $15,000, I knew what was really going on.

I am a single mom, with four children, so I don't know why he thinks I have that kind of money anyway! hahaha

I asked him the name of the company he had placed the original order with so that I could look into it from this end and see if there were reports from other consumers about problems with that company. He got very angry and started saying I was insulting him by thinking that he didn't do his research before he placed this order and as others have reported when he is upset his grammar and English tend to deteriorate.

As soon as I 'met' this man online I had started trying to look for information about him online. I looked him up by his name, and by his email. I looked for him on Facebook, and MySpace. Interestingly enough, when I did a search for his email on Facebook, I came up with both the pic he uses in his yahoo personals profile, as well as a picture for a completely different person. When I asked him if he uses Facebook, he said no. I then told him that somebody must be impersonating him then because I found him on Facebook. The next day, the second identity had vanished from the site.

Since I didn't find any info about him by googling his name, I am assuming that he probably has not used this name with anybody else yet, but hopefully some of the details I have listed here will be enough to keep somebody else from doing something they will regret.

Ask questions people! Do your research! If it sounds too good to be true, it probably is!

This Jerk got me to for a while. Luckily I knew once he said he needed $2000 that he was a scam. I played his game for a little while,. He told me that he has a 4 year old son named David. The kid probably doesn't even exsist. Now he only needs $500 to get home, and will pay me double when he returns.....yah right!!! what an asshole!!!
Anyway, I'm sure that he has got alot of women roped into his little pathetic game. His grammer isn't the best, but he knows how to get by. His stories do not jive anyway. He lives in CA and first time said he never went to an amusement park, then he said later that he had been to Disney twice, but couldn't tell me anything about the place!!!

I have been writing to a chap by the name of 'David Mile' who was first on the Dating Direct site who said he was from Houston. Two weeks after himself and his 15 year old
son had to go to Accra Ghana on business - and he is still there according to him.
He seemed a nice guy and i fell for his words but held suspicions when he kept on asking me to ring him which cost me an orange bill of 690.00 pounds. He has sent
flowers, teddy bears, balloons, chocolates the lot.

I want to know if he known under another name or is his name actually David Mile.

I have attached a photo

Robin used to same pictures for me as he did with the mom with four children. There is another guy out there to...his name is Terry Mason. I think that he is also Robin Habing.
His story is very similar and is also in Africa on business. He is an antique dealer for god sake. Why would you go to Africa for months to buy antiques!! He claims that he is from Houston and moved to Tampa 8 months ago. His wife also died in a car accident 3 years ago and moved to Florida to start over. He also cannot tell me anything about Tampa as he has only lived there for eight months. Give me a break, I can live somewhere for 2 days and tell you where there is an Outback!!!
Anyway, It's very easy to get roped in by these con artists, so ladies, just please be cautious, as soon as they tell you they have to go to work in Africa.....BLOCK them.....

hello all...i was scammed by 'robin habing' i am so ashamed and i feel so stupid. we had been talking for about 6 months and i fell for the 'i need money to get home' line. i fell for it several times. i tried to search this name as soon as i began talking to 'it' and i found nothing so i assumed all was ok..it wasnt until the end of july i saw this page and i felt like i ws going to throw up all over the computer, i couldnt believe what i was reading from the lady with 4 children. everything i heard from 'it' was exactl;y what she had written on here. i confronted 'robin habing' and 'it' said that wasnt him. well, i began to question 'it' even more and i realized all of what was going on was a scam and i was talking to a jerk and that i was never going to see all of the money i sent. i mean to tell u that i have been absolutely sick about this for about 2 weeks now. i am the type to trust people and i must say that i have learned the ultimate lesson in life...DO NOT TRUST PEOPLE! i do want to thank the lady who initiated this about him so i could read it and be informed. and u r right..if it is too good to be true, it probably is!

do not feel stupid or ashamed .
we all here have in some way fallen in the same traps.

i am sorry that he scammed you out of your hard earned dollars and played with your feelings
and yes, trusting people that you only know through internet is very risky.
You'd better go by
' Trust is good, but control is better' saying.
Take the time to go through the various posts on delphi and learn how to spot the scammer immediately.

once you know, break up communication without telling him how you found out, block him from further communication and go on with your life.
these asswholes have very strong ego's and can be not stand to be let down. so let him waste his time trying to come back to you.

but beware, he will give it another try under different name, different email, different story.
that's why it is important for you to learn how to spot him(them) immediately.

Mainly follow the advice as to
NEVER SEND ANY MONEY

post all info (purged from your personals) on here including email headers, pics, chat transcripts, etc
this will help other (potential) victims to fall for his crap.
we gladly assist you

'may the force be with you'

Hi Fred! Thank you for your post.

I am the original poster of this thread. You are right on about knowing what to look for. I don't think the same person would contact me again because I did not send any money, don't have any to send, but since this experience I have encountered a couple of people that I am pretty sure were up to the same scam.

It's easy to tell once you have experienced this. First off, 'out of the country on business,' especially in Nigeria, is probably a red flag.

Also, if they say they are from somewhere and can't or won't tell you anything about that city (favorite restaurant, etc), tell them to get lost. 'Robin' tried to dance around this by saying that he didn't eat out much, then told me he had a personal chef. hahaha! In Berkeley, CA if you are making around 100k a year, you are probably not well off enough to have a personal chef! Then when I tried to get him to tell me where he wanted to go for our first face to face meeting, he kept telling me that he wanted me to decide. That's because he had no idea what there is to do in this area!

Another thing that is suspicious is if they take a realllllllly long time to answer your questions in IM. Chances are, they are having to think up answers, google them, or maybe even translate?

If they say they are well educated but use language that is inconsistent with that education. Nobody who went to graduate school in this country and was raised with English as their first language is going to make the grammatical and language errors that this character made.

Just be aware. I'm so sorry for the people that have lost money to these creeps, but don't feel stupid or ashamed! A lot of us are so eager to lend a helping hand or to find our knight in shining armor that we let ourselves be tricked. Take that anger and use it to inform others about this problem!

Best of luck to you all!

He's at it again...now it is Robin Habin- same pics...so when I did the search, nothing came up. But then I noticed the account name was 'Habing' so I did the search and discovered this site. I figured him out pretty early on because he was moving too fast...his language skills were very good at first...then he seemed to get lazy. And, yes, when questioned about anything (once stuck in Nigeria) he does get hostile and his language skills do deteriorate.

If you suggest any other type of assistance other than the money he wants, he gets pretty aggressive, as well. At 1st he requested $3K and when it was clear I wasn't going to do that and these guys were coming for him, he 'begged' for time until Fri. and they said they would accept half and then give him his passport back so he could send them the rest. I played it through until this am, so I would have the following details to report him (again) to Yahoo Personals and anyone that I could. I have now blocked him.

I initially did searches, including Chamber of Commerce search for Berkeley and found it odd that he was not ANYWHERE on the internet...even my kids are because of pics in the local paper...how could someone owning a business not be anywhere on the internet?!? When I mentioned to him that I spoke to a friend about him, he said that I shouldn't do that because noone else would understand what was happening between us.

I told him I would not send any money if he could make a phone call- because I knew he would have an accent...he made up an excuse about not being able to use a phone- although he texted me. I also received a call supposedly from Homeland Security because the caller (w/ a Nigerian accent) said my info had come across his desk and he needed my address and other personal info to clear up my contract dispute and release payments. I stated that I had no contract in Nigeria and that I would not give him any of my personal info. He used my name and my cell phone #...I contacted my bank- just in case, but they assured me since I had not given any of my personal info that they could not get anything w/ name and phone #.

I told him Wed I would not be able to get the money and last night I didn't hear from him until I sent a message letting him know I was going to sell my car to get him the money...then he IMMEDIATELY popped up and into the following conversation...what a PIG...he would let a single mom of two sell her only car to send him some loot.

Oh yeah...something else to watch out for, when he initially requested the funds, he used 'usd'...pretty sure an American citizen wouldn't do that...the assumption would be there. He also talked about God blessing our relationship and blah blah blah...Ok...I'm off my soap box...but this was the 1st AND last time I will try online personals!

What a Dirtbag!!!! I was on match.com and thought I had found the most wonderful man. His supposed name was Terry Mason, and he went under the name of tm_ackz000009 on match.com and terrycares4u2008@yahoo.com. He claimed he had just moved to Tampa, FL 8 months ago but was in Nigeria buying Antiques. We talked over yahoo and IM'd everyday! He seemed great. In the second week, he emailed me and said that he loved me and wanted to scream it to the universe. I found this odd being that we had never even met or even known each other for very long. Anyways, I went along and kept in contact with him. One day on IM he asked me to call him and gave me a number to call. ( 1-234-8028955983) When he answered I knew he had an different accent but he claimed he had lived in Sweden and had a mixture of accents. I believed him, but was still suspicious. As I lived in South Africa, I could some what tell that it was an African accent. On one particular day he asked me if I could do him a favor. He said that he was leaving in a few days and needed to pay his hotel bill but was having technical difficulties with his American Express. He asked if I could send him money and he would get it back to me as soon as he got back to the United States. Right then a red flag popped up. I said no right away, that I didn't have any spare money. He said he understood and carried on talking in his sweet way. This made me upset because I suspected that it was a scam but I didn't want to believe it. Then a friend found this site and low and behold similar scenario. I couldn't believe it. After I read all of this I went onto Yahoo, and he was online and talking but I said brb. When I didn't reply for a while he got a little angry and said that he was off to bed. He signed off. Then I said, I'm just curious, how much money do you need? As soon as I said that he signed on and said what do you mean? I recalled our conversation and he said oh, well I need $1,450.00 but how much can you afford? I said nothing, I have told you that I cannot afford to send you any. He started to get angry, so I sent him the link of the exact scam, and he said how can you think we are the same. DUH, do you think I'm stupid!!!!! Anyways I said let's end this, don't contact me anymore. He got aggressive and said, You are going to regret saying that!!! We are still going to meet some day. This scared me, but right after that he signed off. I blocked and deleted him so that he can no longer contact me. This is the picture he used on match.com
