I met James on Match.com last week. After initial contact, he asked me to IM him on Yahoo, and I noticed he disappeared from Match.com the next day.
He claimed to own a construction company at one time, now employed as a Project Manager and traveled all over Europe and Africa to large construction projects. When I first me him, he told me he was in Frankfurt Germany, but on Saturday morning he flew to Angola where he would be for 2 weeks and then Nigeria. His home was currently Tunia, Tunisia where he grew up, but claimed to have been born in Longwood, FL. That was the only reason I spoke with him, his profile showed FL as his home. He said he was expecting to return to the states with his 6 year old daughter, Kelly. He said he was born in states, his father was from there, but mother and sister were in Tunisia. When I asked him specifics about his job or intentions to come stateside, he would give vague answers or change the subject and never answer me. That was a red flag, besides the fact that he was not living in FL.
He was very romantic and attentive, sent ecards daily, called me Sunshine and appeared very traditional in his approach. He loved to slow dance and R&B was his favorite music. He was well versed genuinely represented his rouse well. He used the word 'cos' a lot and always kept his status on IM invisible. It took him a week to get 'personal.' He liked to ask questions that seemed very prepared, like 'List 5 things you would change about yourself' or 'If you were given 5 wishes, what would they be?' crap like that. And his responses came so quickly when I asked him the same questions.
After investigating on the internet about date site scams, I decided to say goodbye to him and believe that he was too good to be true. He immediately was offended and was thankful that I came forward so quickly and not break his heart any further.
This morning I found out how to trace his IP address, and sure enough all coorespondence was from Nigeria with someone named Catalin Miclaus. Seems Catalin has a LONG history of swindling people all over the world. He is perfecting his communication skills and doing homework. I searched for photos of the 'James' I thought I was communicating with, but I have not found any. Perhaps the photos he sent me are of new victims he has worked on. Now I wish I had never sent him one of me...I'm sure it will be used in the future for some other unsuspecting and trusting individual.
