I have been contacted by a Sargent James Anderson who claims to be serving in Kabul Afghanistan. He said that his wife died giving birth to their child, the child also died. He said he as been in for 30 years, about to retire. The photos I'm being sent are showing that the soldiers last name is James, not his first. He was setting up a request for money for children at an orphanage there in Kabul. When I said that I was not able to send money, he asked for home baked cookies. Then he wanted new undershirts and boxers - 5 packages of each. Then he asked for a necklace and a watch. I said I'd send only cookies but then was told that it had to go to a person who would bring the packages because receiving mail was dangerous to the soldier. I was given an email to request the address which turns out to be Ghana, they would deliver it from there and they wanted it sent express as they were leaving soon.
the email address was : firstname.lastname@example.org, he sends text from yahoo and from a number: 501-483-5043 and each text states: 'Sent From Kabul,Afghan Military Camp'
If this is on the level, I would apologize but fear that my intuition is telling me I am being lied to. I found a site from the Army with several pointers and it stated that sending anything to a third party was a big warning sign. All should go to an APO or FPO address. I am the widow of a Marine and know how it should work so thankfully, did not send anything.
AT this point I am more concerned for the Soldier whose image is being used. I will send in a complaint to the Army regarding his status.
Are you being scammed and this is your first visit here?
