Need password for encrypted RAR or ZIP archive

Question:
I downloaded an archive from the edonkey filesharing platform and was going to unpack it. It turns out that the archive is protected by a password (encrypted). How can I find the password?Answer:
For RAR archives there is a shareware tool (http://www.rarpasswordcracker.com/) that can try a brute force or a dictionary attack. The brute force attack for passwords of more than 5 characters takes pretty long already, the dictionary attack is more promising. The shareware version only searches passwords up to a length of 4 characters, I found.If the file came from the ed2k platform (edonkey), then you may want to look for comments on the file. Unfortunately you cannot view comments once the file is completed, so you'll have to move the archive out of the shared folder, then search for the file again and start the download again. Wait a little, and you can - hopefully - view comments on it. Possibly one of the comments will indicate the password.
If there are no such comments, then take a good look at the file name. It is common that the file name contains a [..] part. The term in [] may just be the password.
Examples:
super_software_[secret9].rar
super_software_[pass_secret9].zip
The password would be 'secret9' here.
Update: As someone posted in the comments section, if you downloaded an encrypted file from the edonkey network that may have been released by the 'Goldesel' crew, then try this password: "www.goldesel.6x.to". For some reason the Goldesel people felt to advertise their web site that way.

The password is not inside the rar file. Rar file is encrypted using known encrypt algorithm. Lets say for simplicity that bytes in the rar-file are suffled with encrypt algorithm and given password. If you know the password the same program can order the bytes in original order.

thanks for the goldesel thingy. Trouble is after getting the file I wanted, It was audio not video. Anyone with the 12 chapters (video) of trapped in the closet, hola back. Cheers to the anonymous one once again!

Works on files downloaded from Goldesel. Have tried brute-force tool before i found this article without success. As anonymous said password is not stored inside the RAR file. THX

if you get a CRC error the file is propably broken. CRC is made to check the correctness of data, and if someone fucks with that area of the file the whole file breaks.
