Here's another one for you, read below. Watch out guys, this is the 2nd time I been had. I sent $500 to an eleska girl, whom wanted more. Save your money. Spread the word!!

Hi, my Carl. My dear, excuse, for a delay of the answer!I even do not know what to tell first. I simply hope thatyou will be happy! The most important, finest news - I did it!I got the visa! I am very happy Carl!!!!My prince I have not stopped on it and later we with mygirlfriend at whom I have stopped in Moscow have gone tooffice of this airline, company that reserves airway tickets.I asked them how I can reach Minneapolis and how much itcosts. They've told me that the roundtrip flight to yourairport cost $2287 united states dollars. It was tooexpensive for me and I've asked them to find the cheapest variant. And they've offered. it would be on the July 28 I have learned, that cost of tickets up to in one party will make 585 dollars,I was wondered if it was possible to reserve a ticket andto pay for it a part of the money this time and the otherpart later, because other people can buy the cheap ticketand I'm not. But they've refused and I was in despair!I've asked them to help me so long time that tears havecome to my eyes! And they've agreed! I have learned, thatreturn tickets are necessary for the proof of that Iindependently can return to Russia. But there is anopportunity to change return the ticket on money in yourcountry, or to change date. To me have told, that if willtake return tickets the discount at a rate of 5 % is given,it turns out that 585+585=1170 dollars and will subtract 5%these are 58 dollars that will make 1114 dollars, but stillit is necessary to add to this sum of 10 % from cost forregistration of tickets and meal, it will turn out 1225 dollars,is the cheapest tickets of an economic class, is cheaper away to arrive to you I is not present. It was the bestvariant for me. They have told that I can pay a part ofmoney now, and the other part later. it is possible, but Iwill be limited by term. And if I will not pay the fullcost of the ticket within of this term, I will lose alreadynested money. I have agreed because it is the only chancefor me, because I must give to anti-emigration committee adata about my payment. By this moment I had only theconcrete sum of money which I had after all my expenses.I paid $ 570 USD. But it was not enough for them.In a panic, all what and I could do - I pawned my goldearrings and rings In a pawnshop and I got $174 USD.That is all I could do. The information on flight:9:55 pm Depart Moscow (SVO)Arrive Minneapolis (MSP) 4:00 pm +1 day Saturday 28-JulyDuration: 27hr 5mnThe number of the flight on which I will get theticket is Aeroflot-Russian Airlines 257 Continental 57 / 2995 Connect in Paris (CDG), Newark (EWR)I know that probably I simply must tell that I can't cometo you because I haven't the remaining sum. I know that Ipromised to do all by self, and I was sure that I can.I did not want to ask you. But after I did everything Idid, I cannot simply tell that I will not come to you.I have passed through so many difficulties, and I haveovercome the most difficult. But all the same I havedisgusting feeling that I could not fulfill the promise.I am always ready to do all what is possible,- to fulfillmy promises, but at the same time I understand that anyperson could get in such a situation. To get the visa Ihave spent much more money than I expected. But people wereready to help me only if I will pay them. I paid more than500 dollars to get all documents, I paid in municipalcommittee, in the ministry. Even officers in army garrisonhave compelled me to pay for their help. I did not expectall this, but up to the last moment I was sure that I stillcan make everything. I expected that I can get a vacation payment. But I have received only a part. We get other part a vacationpayment after ending of a vacation. I Tried asked to giveme this money now because I need this money urgently. But, at the last moment I have got the answer that I canget this money urgently only in case of serious illness orfor example in case of death of the relative. Besides, youknow, the part of funds was stolen from my apartment, andit yet have not returned to me. They Have subscribed inpolice to transfer to me funds to your country, in threeweeks, and I can return to you it. I feel so guilty.I was sure that nothing can prevent our meeting. But I mustpay remaining sum. It is $ 481 USD. And I must pay moneybefore 25, morning. Otherwise I will lose my nestedmoney and our jewelry will be sold out simply in vain.I know that I should not ask you, and I am very ashamed to do it.And maybe I really simply had to tell you that I can't meetwith you because I could not provide my travel completely. But I cannot simply refuse our meeting because then all mydiligence, forces, nerves, means will be spent in vain.I understand that for you it is too big sum to lend me.You are not obliged to help me. And 500 dollars which Ihave spent to get the visa, and 744 $ that I have given forthe ticket also I restored a door in an apartment beforedeparture. It all are huge money for me. But I want you toknow that I have given everything not for the sake ofmyself, but for the sake of us, for the sake of you and me.And I was happy all this time. If you want to meet me, tohelp me to make our meeting, please, send funds to the helpbefore 25, morning. I want you to be confident in mysincerity, that is why I send you the view of my visa.I want you to see the result of my efforts. I do not knowif you want to help me or already not. But you have toldthat I should let you know if there is anything you can doto help me. I believe you even though I am afraid to ask.But I have no other exit. I need you Carl. If you canhelp me I will tell you what I have found out. You can helpme with the help of remittance system. So I have addressedto the most convenient bank. I have been told that they usethe system 'WesternUnion.com'. They have told that it isthe American systems. And there I can receive your helpvery fast and I will be absolutely safety. But I cannotreceive funds personally, because I have no the Moscowregistration. In Moscow all is very strict. And Muscovites do not love visitors, and they have own laws. Therefore You should transfer them into any office(bank)here in Moscow for Oksana Blincova (My girlfriend here).we shall receive funds with her together. There I have beentold, that to get the money, we must tell to employee ofbank(agent) your full name, your full address, exact sumwhich I should receive and some confidential numbers -Reference Number. You will get this number in yourbank(office) if you will send your help. Only with presenceof all this information I can get your help. And I willgive you back all your funds at the earliest opportunityprobably in three weeks. I think about you Carl all the time!I think about a meaning of money, and I'm very sad if thesepapers can prevent people to meet each other. In most casesthe money play a main role in the life but it's not right!I do not know what answer I will get from you Carl.I very much am afraid that you will not help me.But I want to tell, that I really need you, and I simplycan't endure the thought that I did almost everything, butI will not meet you. I have given all my forces, buttogether we are stronger. Are you with me?Write to me soon! With love, Your Victoria.

Hi Guys:

Well, the newest incarnation seems to be angelanavankid@gmail.com and answers to Maria. I corresponded with supposedly 'her' for many weeks, months, finally got an email requesting for money to make up for balance of airfare to my country. Of course I didn't pay it but she/he had me going for a while in terms of belief. Initially she said she would pay her way herself so I wasn't concerned.

You have very similar emails posted here for examples, names have changed, but basically the same content.

They take their time in the correspondance. She used True.com in a live chat. Although she claime ignorance in terms of how she used internet I noted she got past security requirements of the bypassing '@' symbol with direct correspondance 'without paying'
is prohibited by many of these dating sites. My sonar was up but not enough.

She\he failed to provide phone number when I requested it to validate themselves. They had long winded reason, basically telephone communications in Russia aren't so good which is true but still, ALWAYS be suspect if they do not provide phone number.
Still, even with phone number its still possible to get scammed and even talking to someone in person.

The end result is the advice all legitimate dating agencies give, never give money, at least until you've met that woman in person.

The pretense of the scam, you spend much time corresponding with this person, build up an emotional attachment and she tries desperately to get her visa so she can see you. When her plan fails not because she could not get her visa but things unforseen in terms of expenses, you're supposed to feel sorry for her, if not guilty and of course odds are she suckers in a few guys who willingly pay to make up the difference.

As far as photographs... I didn't think about it but they got some out of me. However, when you think about it, there are lots of websites where they could grab just as many photo's of people, situations and people.

Be careful about Russian dating websites too, they can be just as bad if not worse. Look for user reviews and not just the first 10 but the next 100 or even more. I know for a fact that some, one like Anastisia.com is semi-legitimate but ultimately if you correspond, you likely won't be talking to women but being given form letters. They've salted the internet with good reviews, referring websites too but underneath it all, its a veneer to get money out of you. Read their fine print, they talk of email but then you never get direct communication with the women.

There's a lot to be cautious about.

Eddie from Sweden
Acadian from Canada ..thanks for your very informative post...I really hope you don't mind if I make a few comments on the topics it covers:

- the very first Russian girl I met on the net was real (and very cute). I met her on udate.com. We emailed and talked on the phone for 4 months, and since I didn't have time to go to Russia, I sponsored her visa to Sweden and she came to visit me in Sweden in Dec 2005. There was never any question of her being a scammer, although it didn't work out out for us and she now lives in the US. But we're still friends and keep regular contact. I think you understand the point I'm making.

- soon after that, I came across my first scammer on Delphiflirts. She (he) tried to scam me for visa money, the usual form mails, Mari El dialup, no telephone, etcetc. Luckily, having spent a laborious few weeks sponsoring my previous Russian visitor i knew that it was impossible for her (him) to get a visa without tickets as well, plus a whole dross of documents from me, facts which I pointed out to her but which she ignored. Ergo I knew she (he) was scamming me and proceeded to do some research. A girl even phoned me up when the scammer got worried that I wasn't going to send any money (which i didn't anyway)

- After that, I tried a few different websites, was contacted by a whole dross of scammers (but also corresponded with a few real girls) and drew up a list of typical Russian dating scam signs. I began to find it quite easy to recognise scammers actually, even the pros. (the little hairs on the back of one's neck for a start).

- I joined a Russian dating site, Russianbrides, in May 2006 and found them to be quite good. Of course, there were lots of scammers there (as there are on most dating sites anyway) and they all wrote to me in the first two weeks, but the administration always removed them when I reported it. They like to protect their paying customers you see. I've also heard that Elenasmodels is quite good as well. None of them are perfect, but some are better than others.

- In all, I had a worthwhile correspondence with about 6 or 7 real Russian girls last year, 100% definitely not scammers. I even met a real girl from Moscow in the free chatroom at Absolute Agency. I've visited Russia twice, once last summer and once this Easter, met up with two of the girls, and sponsored one of them to visit me in Sweden last November. She is now my fiancée and has her residency interview at the Swedish embassy on October 3.

Acadian, I apologise for being longwinded!!! Your advice is extremely sound, especially for newbies. Never send money!!...unless...you are completely sure that the girl is not a scammer. It's not that hard to confirm. And any website that charges it's male customers is more likely to take care of you. Plus you're more likely to meet real Russian girls on a real Russian site, once you've beaten off the scammers, than on a freebie like 'datemefree'. Those are the points I wanted to make. There are lots of nice real Russian girls out there, if that's what you're looking for, it's just learning to recognise them.

I's like to finish by posting my list of scam signals, ...a combination of several or more of these indicate 100% scam in my experience. Some of them are more obvious than others.

# 'girl' writes to you first on a dating site (or an email appears out of nowhere in your mailbox). Real Russian girls are rarely that bold. (unless you're very attractive or rich :D...) Plus if they're looking for a partner, they generally prefer him to be Russian speaking and live in Russia.
# girl's much too young for you (or TOO pretty/looks like a model/porno star)
# girl has some far-fetched excuse for you not visiting her in Russia first (criminal city, not Russian custom, etc). Actually, the normal procedure is to meet a Russian girl in her city first.
# scammers rarely have children, but all the real Russian women I've ever met did.
# photos are too revealing (can't be a respectable girl)
# most of the pics are old and a little bit faded. Most scam photos have a curiously grainy quality that soon becomes easy to recognise. A serious girl who's looking for a partner would save up and go to a professional to have a photo set done, and/or borrow a digicam at least (the dates should then also be on the photos you receive and be recent). Russian girls aren't all that poor anymore.
# girl claims not to have a mobile phone. Very unlikely!!! even poor girls have a mobile phone, they're much cheaper than in Europe and a megafon telephone card doesn't cost that much either. On the other hand, not having a landline or a home computer is quite common.
# very long rambling/ecstatic form letters with a strange format, punctation, layout, written in scamlish. (world's worst Babelfish copy)
# writes everyday in English (how does she have time if she's working? + most Russians don't speak very much English anyway). And what's the point of finding a girl if you can't communicate with her, at least on a basic level?
# doesn't answer direct questions (sometimes factual inconsistencies in the letter)
# falls 'in love' very quickly. Don't let your ego or loneliness pull the wool over your eyes. You could be a jerk for all she knows.
# suggests that there aren't any decent men in Russia. Complete crap. As i mentioned before most Russian girls would prefer a Russian guy anyway. And why would anyone want to emigrate and be dependent on someone for that reason only?
# wants money for a 'visa' and/or maybe tickets, even though she needs a personal letter of invitation from you, a copy of your passport, a proof of your residence in your home country, a completed sponsor's application form (also from you)....not including the documents that she has to fill in herself. All of these she has to drop off at your national embassy in Moscow WITH PREPAID TICKETS and wait 7-10 working days. Without these sponsorship documents, it's impossible for 'her' to get a sponsored Schengen visa. Canada is almost as complicated. And normal tourist visas + travel costs etc would set her back 3000+ US dollars. She should be scamming you for the full monty and nothing less. And why should it be so easy for a gorgeous sexy girl just to jump on a plane and fall into bed with you? Be realistic.
NB...pays to check the national embassy website in Moscow for the visa prices and procedures.
# uses a proxy server to hide his/her location, ie a SOCKS server / GPRS Internet. if you can't trace 'her' IP, it's 100% scam. If she uses gmail, be suspicious too cos u won't be able to trace the IP. Hotmail and yahoo are acceptable if she'll chat with you on messenger, otherwise why does she have a non-cyrillic email account?

I've used 'you' in this list, but I'm not specifically referring to you, Acadian.

She got me too fellas. I was talking to this broad for a while. She kept asking me to goto some foreign website to send her flowers. Ofcourse I did not do that. Then she insisted on flying out to see me which I refused her to do. In her e-mails she was so persistent. That she was going through some trouble for money but borrowed a bunch from her friends and would like to be reimbursed for her plane ticket and her visa to the U.S. I told her tough shit I didn't ask you to come and visit me. I knew then really she was a scammer because she was all ready with the western union info in that same email asking me for atleast 500 bucks. I stopped talking to her after that.
