Hi. I'm really concerned about a man my mom met on Myspace, and has been speaking with on the phone and instant messaging every day for a couple of months now. He was supposibly born in Italy, lived in the states for awhile, now he's on a construction business trip in the UK, and he owns the construction company. Also sends money and other things to Nigeria for charity. Well he sends my mom all kinds of credit cards, with her name on them, a few times they came with the wrong name, sometimes the cards werent activated, or didn't work. He's promised her all kinds of things, he's sent her a little bit of money to pay a bill. But he's had her withdraw $10,000 from one of the cards, and had her Western Union it to one of his 'workers' in Nigeria. He had her go and buy two laptops with the credit cards, and send them to one of the charities in Nigeria that he donates to. At first I was trying to be hopeful for her that she just found someone she really clicked with, and he also had money and wanted to help her out financially, which would be great, but too good to be true, obviously. He's been saying he's coming to meet her for a few weeks now, and was supposed to be there before Christmas, but stuff with his business keeps preventing him from doing so, but he swears he'll be here real soon. Now that I'm really putting everything together, this has to be a scam. How do we figure out for sure that it is? and if this is the case, what does my mom need to do? Considering she's been using the credit cards for him and what not.

Jamie,

Check this list. He may be on it already. Or else Google the name and his e-mailaddress.

Hi Dirk

I have been contacted in the last few days by a girl( or a Boris) calling themselves Tatyana.

I knew instantly that she was a scammer and instantly did a search and came up with your thread here. Firstly Nice job mate, four months, you are a god, i spent 3 hours reading from start to finish so i could obtain some tips on how to set this one up.

my only concern is them accessing my computer. I notice on one of your posts you mentioned a filter or anti trojan freeware? can you list it for me so i can ensure my machines saftey. I will post on here under a new thread when i can get her last name.

I think you will be proud of the 3 emails we have shared to date, i for one needed a glass of water to stop laughing at myself!

thanks in advance

anon for the minute, so as not to tip them off...

Scammerhammer,

First of all... Sorry for not answering any sooner. Haven't been on this Thread for a while, because I played (and am playing) with some other scammers.

You ask about safety precautions for your comp. To be honest, I am not the most technical of the veterans posting on this site. Maybe OJAS can give you some good advice on this. In my personal view the massive attacks on my comp (described here) didn't come from Russia at all. I wasn't the only one, as you can read here. But I was apparently the only one who got hit real hard, because my protection was feeble. I now use Norton. Fjellhare sent me a German anti-virussoftware (ask him about it, he will send it to you: Natalia from Ossiniki-thread). Furthermore I use Spy Bot, Search and Destroy to check my comp for spyware everyday (you can download it. It's free).
Again... I don't think that the scammers are responsible for the attacks. Why should they? They take the risk of a counterattack that might destroy their instrument and their illegal income? No way.

Last, but not least... You are wrong. I am not a God. But I appreciate that you like the Tati-Thread. Enjoy. And keep on laughing!

Dirk

PS The best precaution is... Never open links from senders you don't know. Don't be curious. Don't trust them. Throw them out. If it came from a friend, he will ask you about it.
