Hi Michael!

How are you today? How is the weather there? I hope everything is ok!
I'm feeling well. I feel myself completely recovered. I want to thank
my friends. They helped to overcome the illness. My friends visited
me yesterday and I was very glad to see them. We did prepare chicken
fry with potatoes. It was delicious. They actually didn't stay till
late, because of my illness. All in all it was a very pleasant evening.

By the way they granted me some flowers. It was sky blue peonies. As
I wrote you before these are my favourite flowers and my favourite
colour. You should remember that Michael.
I talked to my agent and she told me that all of my papers are ready.
My visa is ready too and it is waiting for me in the main office of
my agency in Moscow. I'll fly out from Moscow and I'll pick up my visit

from my agency en route to the airport. I also talked with her about
the job they found for me. My agent said that I'll have a different
salary from one year to another. My salary for the first year will be
$40 000 USD, and $50 000 USD for the second year. Next 3 year salary
could be raised more, maybe it will not happened, but it will not down
under $50 000 USD. It's for sure. Michael, can you tell me if this
amount of money will be enough for me to live in your area? Let me
know.
I think I will be able to afford a place of my own right away (I mean a

rent), but I'm not sure if I will be able to afford a car. Should I buy

a used car or I can expect that I can buy a new one? What do you think?

What are the prices for the used cars and for the new cars?
I was told that I'll get an advance as soon as I come to NYC. It will
be $5000 USD, which I'll have to return in six months. I believe that
it
is not a great amount of money, so I'll be very careful with them. I'm
going to reserve a ticket by Thursday or by Friday, not sure right now.

I wanted to make it tomorrow but I've got some affairs which I have to
finish right away. I'll let you know my flight schedule soon.
I watched a TV set lately and there was a programme about the NASCAR
racing championship.
I see it's a very popular sport event in the states. I find it
interesting
too. I'd like to visit the race sometime. Is it possible? Is it
expensive?
I want to give you my address just in case. Here it is:
Country: Russia
Region: Komi region
Town: Lach
Lermontova street, building # 7, apt. # 10
But, please, do not send anything through regular mail. I want you to
know that our mail service is very bad. It is very slow and the cards
or packages could be lost or even stolen! There a lot such incidents
here.
That is why I want to warn you from sending anything through our mail
service. I gave you my address to show you that I trust you enough
Michael.
I want you to know that I started to feel some kind of affection
towards
you Michael. I miss you letters when I have no possibility to check my
mailbox and to read them. It is very strange. I do not know how to
explain
it. Well, it is late and I have to quit here. I've attached a picture
for
you. The quality is not very good, but I hope you will like it. I'll
try
to prepare a new picture for you tomorrow.
I'll wait for your reply Michael!
Your Russian friend Anna

Hi my faraway friend Michael!
It is 4:00 pm in Lach, Thursday. We've got a thaw today and the snow
has melted away. Everything has become gray and gloomy. My mood is on
the zero. In fact, I've got a flue or something like this. I feel
myself terrible. I think I have to see my doctor today. That is why
I'll be short today, ok? I hope you are well Michael and didn't get
sick. It's a horrible feeling.
I talked to my agent today and she said that I have to reserve a ticket

by next week. She said that my visa and other documents will be ready
in a week, so I can start to pack my baggage! I was also told that I'll

have to spend 2 or 3 days in NYC before I'll head to my place of
working.
It will be needed to arrange some formalities and to sign a contract
with the employer. My agent said that I'll be met in the airport. Those

people will help me to reach the office in NYC. All in all I think I'll

come to NYC in a 2 week. It is really close from now. I'm getting
exciting
and nervous at the same time. I so used to have my mother somewhere
close
to me, that it will be very difficult for me to leave her here in Lach.

I'll try to take her to America in the future when I'll get a
citizenship.
I'll think how to arrange it.
Michael, I wonder what places I should visit in America. I've heard of
Niagara Falls, Las Vegas and Hollywood. Maybe there is something else?
Let me know. I very like to travel and to see new places.
I can't remember if I ever asked you about your horoscope's sign. As I
wrote you before I was born 23.12.1978 which makes me Capricorn. Do you

actually believe in horoscope? As for me I do. I find it fun.
I went today to our local connection center and asked if there is any
way you could call me from overseas. I want you to know that I have a
phone but it has a local number only. It means that I can make
calls/receive
calls if they are local only. Do you understand it? I hope. So I think
if
I'll call you when I come to NYC it will be ok.
Michael, from each letter I feel that I'm getting closer to you. Do you
feel
the same? I feel some kind of connection. I can't explain it right now,

but I like it.
I've attached a new pic of me today. It was taken a year ago by my
friend
Katerina, as usual. She is my best friend. She is feeling well after
her
car accident by the way.
Well, my doctor is waiting for me. I have to go. I hope that I'll feel
much
better tomorrow!
Be healthy!
Your Russian friend Anna

Hello my friend Michael!
I am very happy to see that you wrote me! I was not able to check my
mailbox during the weekend, and I must admit I started to miss you
letters.
Indeed I'm feeling much better today. It was a terrible weekend for me.

My doctor said that I have to stay at home and do not leave my bed. I
had
a high temperature and a cough. I'm still feeling myself ill but much
better than during the weekend. I feel that I'm recovering Michael.
A medicine became quite expensive here since the USSR did fall to
pieces.
I remember the times when everything was for free. It sounds like a
fairy
tale now. I have to pay 500 rubles ($20 USD) every time when I see my
doctor.
I'm not sure if it is too many for America, but it is quite expensive
for
Russia. I wonder how much does it cost to see a doctor in America. Let
me
know.
Michael, I want to ask you could you find out what the average
designer's
salary in America is. It is very interesting for me to know, especially
in
your area.
As I wrote you before I was going to reserve a ticket by this week. I
hope
that I'll it by Wednesday or Thursday. As soon as I reserve a ticket
I'll
let you know the exact date of my coming! I also will have to pay some
money
to my agency; because they helped me to find a place to work and helped
with
the papers. I'm very nervous about my coming to America. I think that I

caught flu because of my agitated condition. It is so good to have
friends
which could hold you on in a hard time. Some of my friends will visit
me today
in the evening. They will help me to clean up my apartment and will
help me
to cook my favourite dish - chicken fry with potatoes. I'm very good at
cooking
and maybe someday soon you'll check it out! I like flowers very much
and I
hope that some of friends will tumble to bring me some flowers. I like
roses,
asters and peonies. Do you ever heard of peonies? I bet you do not, but
it is
a very popular flower here in Russia.
Did I ever tell you my last name Michael? I guess I never did. Well, my
last
name is Sotova.
My full name is Anna Petrovna Sotova. So you know now.
Michael, I think we could be a good match. I do not want to push you
and I'm
not in a rush either. Please get me right. I have to say that I
definitely want
to meet you face to face, to talk to you one on one. Only time will
tell if we
are a match, but I'm happy that I have a friend like you are Michael.
I'll stop here. I feel myself tired a little bit, I need some rest.
I'll write
to you tomorrow and will send you a new pic.
Your Russian friend Anna

Hi Michael!
How are you? How is the weather there today? I hope that much better
than here
in Lach. We've got a first snow this morning! It was really beautiful!
Everything
was white. I've got up very early today and what I've seen I could name
'The white
noiselessness'.
I went to my agency this morning and I was told that they could suggest
me some
job's options in your area. That's real great! So I can definitely say
that I'll
come to your area. I don't know how close I'll work/live to you, but I
think it
will not be a problem, right?! I can not say the names of the companies
and if they
have web-sites right now. But I can say that I really wonder myself. My
agent told me that
she couldn't advise what company to choose. She said that I can make my
choice at
New York office. There are some people there who can advise me what
company to choose.
I consider that it is reasonable and I think that I should make my
choice in the
States. Michael, do you know what will be the first thing I'll do when
I come to
NYC? I'm going to call you! I want to hear your voice very much
Michael. I'm still
looking for a chance to call you from Lach but it appears quite
complicated and
expensive. I hope you understand it Michael, and will not be upset.
I don't remember if I ever told you about my town. Maybe it will be
interesting for
you. The name of my town is Lach. It's a small town and the closest big
city is Ukhta.
The population of my town is about 25 thousands of people. My town is
located in Komi
region; it is not far from Siberia so the weather is very rigid here
too. Lach is a
very green town in the summer and very white in the winter! Every
winter we get a lot
of snow. There are some cinemas in Lach, we even have a theatre. The
streets here are
narrow, but it creates some kind of cosiness. I like it. I love my
town, but it's time
for me to leave it. Maybe I'll back someday, who knows. I think the
hardest thing for
me will be to part with my friends and relatives. I used to spend a lot
of free time
with them, I'll miss them. I'll also miss for my apartment. It is
actually not big (It
consists of 2 rooms), but very cozy. My apartment consists of bathroom,
dining room,
hall, lobby and bedroom. I wanted to make a new design for it but it is
not actual for
me now. What can you tell about your surroundings Michael? I'd like
to know.
I must admit that sometimes I feel myself really confused because many
of the questions
you asked I already answered in my previous letters. I don't know how
to check it but
I'm wondering if you received all of my letters. It is a strange
situation. Maybe some
letters didn't get to your mailbox right away? I do not know why that
is.
I've attached a new pic for you today. My friend Katerina did shoot me
last spring. You
probably admitted that I look different in my photos?! I actually like
to look different.
In fact, I'm not a natural blonde. I like to colour my hair. I hope
it's not an issue
for you Michael? I tried some colours but I think that the blonde hair
is the best choice
for me. Don't you think so?
Ok, it's getting late here. I have to close now. I'll write you
tomorrow Michael. It is
so good that I have so much free time this week so I can write you
everyday. I hope you
don't mind that I write so often.

Hi Steve!
I have a possibility to write to you today, because I found an
internet cafe not far from my home. So we'll be able to communicate
during weekends! That's good. It's my first time here and I can't
check my mailbox to see if you sent me a message Steve. I asked
a man to fit the mail client for me and he said that he will help
me but not today. He was very busy allegedly. Hopefully everything
will be set for me by next weekend. So, I'll check my mailbox on my
work tomorrow.
I didn't ask you how you doing. Is everything alright? I hope so.
I'm fine here. I visited my mom yesterday and she is fine too and
I'm glad. I was told that she will be released real soon.
Well I'll quit here. I have some stuff to do.
Till tomorrow Steve!
With deepest affection towards you!

I think she might actually come to the US. It seems like she's trying to find people in a bunch of cities because she doesn't know where she will be living yet.
Or I'm an idiot...
I'm in Arizona, Where you guys at? Maybe we can find a motive between us?

Welcome to any newcomers who find this thread ...for f*** sake, READ THIS!!!!!
...and save yourself a lot of grief and/or homework.

SOME GENERAL INFO ABOUT RUSSIAN GIRLS AND RUSSIAN DATING SCAMMERS:

The vast majority of Russian dating scammers are actually men, mostly working in small gangs in or around Yoshkar Ola, in Mari El republic, sometimes Chuvashia. It's virtually guaranteed that the girls in these scam pics aren't involved because the scammers steal their pics from the internet or pay unsuspecting friends for them, or buy and exchange them on scammer websites. (Once a scammer even admitted to me that he stole his pics from army-of-brides.com and mamba.ru ).

Most scammers are VERY lazy and looking for quick cash. They use email extractor programs to get your email addresses, and copied form mails and spam programs on automatic reply, very often the BAT!, which can personalize small parts of each letter. They mostly won't read your letters until after the money letter because they don't have time, ie because they're scamming, or trying to scam, as many guys as they can (economies of scale).....and also because they're mostly semi-literate losers who can't speak much English anyway.

IN OTHER WORDS, in most cases you can write any crap in your replies and they won't react, they're only interested when they're curious to know if you've taken the bait. Furthermore, the majority of Russian scammers nowadays use proxy servers or forged IPs to hide their locations.

A girl is only involved either occasionally to phone a guy up, especially if he's suspicious, or to pick up the loot at Western Union, with a false ID of course!

If, by any chance, you don't believe me, check out this link:
http://www.cheboksa..mers.html

So....if several or more of the following criteria apply to your Boris (the beautiful Russian 'girl' that is supposedly writing to you), resist the temptation to help 'the poor girl' by sending her money. You're really writing to a sleazy guy sitting in a smoky room in Yoshkar Ola, with a bunch of other sleazy guys spamming indiscriminately on laptops .

# 'girl' writes to you first on a dating site...especially a free one (or an email appears out of nowhere in your mailbox). Real Russian girls are rarely so bold as to write to you first. (unless you're obviously very attractive or rich :))) They will often reply to your mails, but rarely take the initiative. It's the man who does the chasing in Russia. Plus if they're looking for a partner, they generally prefer him to be Russian speaking and live in Russia. Much more convenient!
# girl's much too young for you (or too good to be true/looks like a model/porno star)....although I have noticed a recent tendency for some scammers to use photos of slightly 'less attractive' girls as well.
# girl has some far-fetched excuses for you not visiting her in Russia (criminal city, not the Russian custom, terrorism, it's her dream to come to your country, etc). ALL BULLSHIT!! Actually, the normal way to meet a Russian girl is to visit her in her city first.
# scammers rarely have children, but most of the real Russian women I've ever met on the internet did (except for Moscow career girls). It's often the reason that they're looking for a partner.
# photos are too revealing (can't be a respectable girl). Respectability is very important to most Russian women (especially Moscow career girls). They're hardly likely to send a half-naked photo to a virtual stranger on the internet. Think with your brain!
# most of the pics are old and a little bit faded with a curiously grainy quality that soon becomes quite easy to recognise (overuse?). Again a scammer admitted to me that low-quality photos are a key factor in his scamming. I found this strange because a serious girl who's looking for a partner usually saves up and goes to a professional to have a studio set done (often corny ones posing with a chair etc), and/or borrows a digicam at least (dates should also be on the photos you receive). My fiancée did it. Russian girls aren't all that poor anymore, and if they seriously want to leave Russia, they know that posting cheap pics will only attract cheap guys.
# GIRL CLAIMS NOT TO HAVE A MOBILE PHONE. Very unlikely!!! fer f***'s sake.....do you know a single girl without a mobile phone? Even poor Russian girls can't do without one, they're much cheaper than in Europe and a Megafon telephone card doesn't cost that much either. You should be able to call her whenever you want. On the other hand, not having a landline or a desktop/laptop is very common.
# very long rambling/ecstatic form letters with a strange format, punctation and layout written in scamlish. (world's worst Babelfish copy)
# writes long letters everyday in English. How does she have time to write those long letters if she's working? And if she doesn't have a job, how can she afford a computer + internet? Even Internet cafés are relatively expensive in Russia. Anyway, most Russians outside Moscow can hardly speak a word of English. What's the point of finding a girl you can't communicate with, at least on a basic level? PLUS.. if she can't speak English, why does she have a non-cyrillic email account like gmail or yahoo? Most real Russians use mail.ru, yandex.ru or inbox.ru....though hotmail and yahoo are acceptable if she'll chat with you on messenger (preferably with a webcam).
# doesn't answer direct questions (sometimes factual mistakes in the letter). Her replies should be exactly that...replies...however short they are.
# falls in 'love' very quickly. Don't let your ego, loneliness or lust pull the wool over your eyes. She doesn't know you. You could be an axe murderer for all she knows. Russian TV is full of documentaries about Russian girls who have emigrated and got murdered, abandoned, etcetc.
# uses a proxy server to hide his/her location, ie a SOCKS server / GPRS Internet. if you can't trace 'her' IP, it's 100% scam. THE FIRST THING YOU SHOULD DO IS TRACE HER IP ADDRESS. In fact, it's the only thing you need to do really..

MOST IMPORTANT...if you get this far:
# she asks for money for a tourist 'visa' and/or maybe tickets, ignoring the fact that IT'S VIRTUALLY IMPOSSIBLE FOR A SINGLE RUSSIAN GIRL TO GET A TOURIST VISA TO A WESTERN COUNTRY!

She can get a SPONSORED visa with your help, but then she needs a personal letter of invitation from you, a copy of your passport, a proof of your residence in your home country, a completed sponsor's application form (also from you)....not including the documents that she has to fill in herself. She also needs a job in her country and a letter from her employer. All of these documents she has to drop off at your national embassy in Moscow WITH PREPAID TICKETS and wait about 10 working days. These are the rules for the Schengen countries...the USA and Canada are almost as, if not more, complicated. Anyway, a normal TOURIST visa + travel costs + hotel rooms would set her back 2000+ US dollars for a trip to the US. She should be asking you for a lot of money! Immigration would consider her an overstay risk and never let her in without credit. Why should it be so easy for a gorgeous sexy girl just to jump on a plane and fall into bed with you? Furthermore, no respectable Russian girl would ask directly for money, but might accept some if you insisted.

NB...you should check your national embassy website in Moscow for visa prices and procedures.

There are a few scammers that are more patient and professional, who will take months before they scam you for money (though if you follow my tips, you should be able to spot them anyway). There are even a few real girls scamming, and professional gold-diggers (mostly in the Ukraine). One or two of them are very bold, and not even afraid to use their true identities. These scammers are harder to spot, and there is no easy way to identify them, all you can do is use your instincts and common sense, and DO YOUR HOMEWORK!

But a ground rule is: if you are looking for a Russian wife/partner, you must be prepared to travel to Russia to meet her. You also need to behave generously towards her; after all, you need to prove that you can support here (and her kids) if she migrates to your country. But if she turns out to be a professional gold-digger, which has never happened to me personally or anyone I know (but I know it does happen), you should try to be philosophical and treat it as an exotic trip to a foreign country, have fun anyway, and try not to waste too much money on her.

There are actually hundreds of perfectly nice Russian girls in Russia but you have to be prepared to go and get them. Chercher la femme. It worked for me.

I have not responded for a couple of weeks but she, he, it, what ever it is is still writing me as if I have been responding. Lonly psyco, maybe. Its pretty interesting to see her where all of this is going to lead. BE CAUTIOUS GUYS. Dont get too personal. Its been going on for about a month now. I've been getting the same pics and everything. Hit me up and let me know what you guys think.

Regarding Anna.

This began about the last week of September 2007, with a message that I had written her lately (which I hadn't). At first I suspected just a bad email address, but her mail made it clear that she had fastened on me as her future lover. Since she had never seen a picture of me nor knew my true name, it was clear it was a scam.

I have received all the letters and pictures exhibited in this thread, and I have written to her regularly...knowing that all this was not real. (The pictures are of a very pretty girl, so being male I might not mind that - and it only takes a few moments to write back.)

Things like an agency that will bring her to the US, give her $5,000, guarantee her a $40,000 job, and travel expenses to the city of her choice - all these are beyond reason. The inability to telephone, either through land or cell or IM, the request not to send mail to her physical address in Lach, lead to the same conclusion.

She has never responded to questions designed to elicit evidence that the email had been read by a human. Clearly, the letters she sends have substitution variables for automatic insertion of the recipient's name. Clearly, these letter-models were written by someone with a very good command of English, with enough difficult constructions as to convince a recipient that the writer is really Russian. At one point there was the inclusion of several Russian words for recipient's benefit.

I have run across scams before (there is one that went on back in the 1980s that was classic, but it required money early on for benefits - yet it was persistent for a couple of years).

Anna is different. There is no request for money yet. I thought when her mother had to have breast cancer surgery, surely here would be the hook. Yet it didn't come.

I am curious about this scam, about the ultimate intention (money, I figure), about the length of the scam, about the number of members of the recipient class, and whether this is being perpetrated in other languages (is there a French? German? Spanish? etc. version of these letters?).

Only a minute fraction of the recipients have made entries here; there could be thousands of men writing faithfully, hoping to get this babe!

We will soon find out. I believe this has a two-month duration; she intends to come to the US on 23 November, just about two months after her first mail. SO, I expect in about ten days the request for money will come. How many will send her a couple of thousand dollars? Enough to make the scam pay off royallly!

There is one thought that I have had that I haven't seen expressed, and that is the thought that there will be a book published about stupid Americans and all the things they write to a pretty face. Probably won't happen, but it was worth the thought. I'd buy a copy, for I have to say that I admire this scam, for the professional way it has been carried out.

I shall continue to check on this thread to see if anyone has an estimate of the numbers of recipients, other languages, and of course opinions.

I of course shall remain Anonymous.

Well I guess I can add my name to the list of suckers!!!! Looks like I'm in good company. I must agree, whoever this is has done a outstanding job and hooked Lord knows how many guys. Whoever the pictures are really of is a very attractive woman. As for me I plan to continue writing her as if I know nothing of this to see what and when the hook is.

I got the first email on Oct. 1st. The last one I got was on Nov. 10th. I haven't gotten one in a few days. Still don't know what the scam is... I'm gonna play it out too.

once again, I recommend that instead of thinking aloud, you read the posts of some the veterans here, who know what they're talking about. For fuck's sake, it's as if some of you don't even want to be helped.

'it is is still writing me as if I have been responding. Lonly psyco, maybe'

Two posts above yours, there's a post that explains why you're getting automatic replies. Jeez!

'I of course shall remain Anonymous'
...finally a guy who's prepared to a little homework. The US work visa scam has been around for a while, you'll find it on quite a few of the threads here. It's still a variation on the standard Russian dating scams though. Usually the 'girl' is a 'nurse', 'she' has already received her 'visa' but needs some money for the flight....or she'll need a medical exmaination at the last minute ....or she'll say that US immigration won't give her the visa unless she has more credit in her bank account....and so on.

Of course, whatver scam it is, it's total bullshit. US immigration would NEVER issue a work visa to someone who doesn't have any money at all in their home country, a medical exam or insurance costs about 10 bucks in Russia, and in any case, if she has found a job in the US, there's a good likelihood that her employer would sponsor her visa/plane tickets.

Either way, check the visa regulations on this site (or at INS or any US embassy website.)

I repeat ....the scammers get your email adresses using AN EMAIL EXTRACTOR PROGRAM! (if you don't have a profile on a dating site, that is). It's easy, anyone can do it: http://www.massmail..tractweb/

Furthermore, nearly all of them use a series of letters or form mails that they send one by one, all of you will get the same letters. Check the headers and you'll find that most of them use the BAT!, a spam program that allows them to make small personal changes. There are no foreign language versions of this scam variation because it's a strictly US work visa scam. (Schengen rules are totally different from US ones anyway).

BTW, it's not just 'stupid Americans' that have and send money.

'Anna' is pretty much the same as most of the other dating scams, only a bit more sophisticated....doesn't ask for money straight away, takes longer, the 'work visa' angle'.

Post an advanced header from one of her mails.

I found this thread a couple of weeks ago and stopped emailing 'Anna' but today I received this email to add to the mystery:

Hi Steve!
It's just a quick message for you. I just want to wish you to
have a good morning (day/night)! I'm not sure what time is it
there. This is the roughest week I ever had. A lot of stuff to
do. My boss definitely wants to give me hard time before my
dismission. I'm angry with him but I have to accomplish my work
before leaving. Right now I'm running some errands and have no
much time to write. I'm hopefully going to write you this evening
Steve. Please don't think that I forgot about you when you
didn't get a letter from me. Ok? It's just too many events at
the same time. Your letters are like a sip of water at the end
of the day. Please keep them coming, they brighten my days.
Oops, 8:20 AM! It's time to run! Hopefully till the evening!
With the deepest affection towards Steve!
Yours Anna

Steve...

No mystery really. The scammer probably didn't notice that you'd stopped writing as his Bat! spam system only replies to mails it receives.

now he's noticed that you haven't written for a while, and he's trying to cover his tracks by pretending that it was HIM who didn't have time to write to you, when the truth is that he didn't even notice. Most of these scammers are spamming hundreds of guys at the same time. They very easily lose track and/or make mistakes.

You might also notice that his writing style has changed because this is a hand-written mail translated with an internet translator, rather than a standard form mail.

For God's sake, post the email header and I'll trcae his IP address for you!
