Screenshots look fuzzy

Question:

I'm taking screenshots and when I look at the saved Bitmaps enlarged, I notice that the text looks fuzzy.

Answer:

Try deactivating antialiasing of fonts or turn off ClearType (new in XP). Antialiasing only affects fonts larger than 13 pixels, while Cleartype affects nearly all fonts. The effects look good on the screen but enlarged (e.g. printed) it looks blurry or fuzzy.

You can set these options in the control panel, go to 'Display', click on tab 'Effects'. In Windows 2000 you'll see an option 'Smooth Edges of screen fonts' which you should just disable.

In XP you might want to disable 'ClearType'.
